HISTORY OF CHRISTIAN MOVEMENTS

Purpose of the course:

This course will help participants to understand in a very introductory way, the origins and history of the Christian movement. It will

highlight the main streams and traditions, contributions and contestations, and how Christianity in the global South is being expressed today.

Minimum Admission Requirements:

Pastors, trainers and other leaders –including those who have not matriculated, or who have matriculated but do not hold a degree/advanced diploma, and who plans to implement these courses in their own congregations or communities.

The course is offered over three full days.

COURSE CONTENT:

  • Module 1: The origins and agenda of the Christian movement.

  • Module 2: Different streams and traditions in the Christian movement.

  • Module 3: Contributions by the Christian movement.

  • Module 4: Contestations, colonisation and conflicts caused by the Christian movement.

  • Module 5: Expressions of faith in the global South.

  • Module 6: Black, liberation, feminist, womanist and other contextual theologies.
