Purpose of the course:
This course will make carers of young children aware of opportunities and risks in childcare, by providing guidelines and enabling the development of basic skills for they work that they do.
Minimum Admission Requirements:
Carers (i.e., child minders, day carers, pastors and community leaders) with Grade 10 and working in a context of early childhood development and care.
Structure and duration of course:
Two weeks of contact tuition over a year, accompanied by 20 mentoring sessions.

COURSE CONTENT:

Module 1: The importance of early childhood development and the childcare functioning in building healthy communities.

Module 2: Setting long, medium and short term goals for children in your care.

Module 3: An outline of the most important aspects of child development during the early childhood phases.

Module 4: The impact of the environment on the development of the child.

Module 5: The role of parents and day carers towards achieving development goals.

Module 6: Different approaches to early childhood development.

Module 7: Designing a curriculum and lesson material.

Module 8: The motivation and discipline of children.

Module 9: An overview of a typical ECD annual programme.

Module 10: Business aspects of running a ECD programme.

Module 11: Participation in a year long mentoring programme.
